This really hits home. I've seen teams spend months rebuilding features because they assumed what users needed instead of asking. The spectrometry example is wild - going from a year to weeks just by understanding the actual workflow first. It's kinda like building a house without talking to the person whos gonna live in it. You might get the blueprints technically correct but miss that they need wheelchair access or hate open-concept kitchens.
